Have the same characteristic as the Greater Flamingo but has a smaller size. It has the body size of approximately 80 centimeters. Feathers on the body is fresh pink, the wing tip is fresh red, the mouth is red with the black tip, and the leg and the feet is dark pink. It has long leg and neck. Its beak is curved and bends down like a spoon using for taking the food from the water.
Can be found in the South and the East of Africa, Madagascar, and the northwest of India. The species breeds on large undisturbed alkaline and saline lakes, salt pans or coastal lagoons, usually far out from the shore, after seasonal rains have provided the flooding necessary to isolate remote breeding sites from terrestrial predators and the soft muddy material for nest building (Brown and Root 1971, del Hoyo et al. 1992, McCulloch and Irvine 2004).
The food is water fleas, plankton, shrimp feti, fish, and some kind of alga.
This bird lives together in a big troop in a thousand near the large shallow water source which has the muddy ground or on the island in the middle of the lake.

The Lesser Flamingo builds the nest on the muddy ground. It lays I egg each time. Both male and female help each other incubating the egg. The incubation period is 28 days before the chick hatches out. The father and the mother will feed the chick in the nest for I week and after that period the chick will come out and stay together with other bird in the troop.
