Giant Asian Pond Turtle (Heosemys grandis)

Interesting :

It is quite big snapping turtle with 12 kilograms of weight. Its brown tortoiseshell has prominent ridge which looks like rattan so it is called “Tow-Waay”. It has light brown head with orange spots, brown legs with spots, white skin and it could be found at temple so people like to call it as “Tow Wat Hua Deang”.

Habitat :

It has been found at dyke in Thailand especially Northern, Central and Southern part. Moreover, it is found in Burma, Indochina and Malaysia.

Food :

It likes to eat vegetable, fruit and sometime might be animal.

Behavior :

It prefers to live in creek, downstream and canal and hardly gets on land.

Current Status :

Vulnerable It is listed on CITES Appendix II.
