At the young age, the area ranging from its mouth tip to neck is orange to deep red in color and will fade down after grown-up. It has black line starting from its tarsus to neck. There are yellow girdles around its body from its neck to tail. Red-headed monitor is the smallest monitor found in Thailand. It is non-poisonous animal.
It is found in evergreen forest in the southern region of Thailand as well as in Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Singapore.
It eats meat and insects.
It is slow-moving animal. It makes a living at the place near its sleeping place. It likes sleeping in tree hollow or rock fold. It will search for food only if it is hungry, and then resume its sleeping.
It lays a clutch of 23 eggs and takes 203-230 days of incubation.
Its body length is 50-125 centimeters.
